
Patient History
39-year-old female with
stage III breast cancer requiring neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
Treatment regimen included:
 |
Dose-dense doxorubicin
and cyclophosphamide (AC) for 4 cycles |
 |
Paclitaxel for 4
cycles following AC. |
Clinical Plan
Patient was very motivated
to have a successful treatment course without any dose
delays or dose reductions. She was diligent in maintaining
her oral hygiene to reduce the risk of mucositis.
 |
To maintain oral
health, she: |
- Underwent a
full dental examination, cleaning, and
fluoride
administration prior to initiation of
chemotherapy
- Used
antibacterial mouthwash and toothpaste, as well
as baking soda/salt water rinses prior to
chemotherapy administration
- Used GELCLAIR
(bioadherent oral gel) multiple times
daily before and after chemotherapy administration
until her blood counts returned to normal.
Outcomes

Patient continued her
oral hygiene regimen throughout her treatment
course, which she completed with no dose delays or
dose reductions. |

With the use of
GELCLAIR, patient experienced no mouth sores or
dysphagia during treatment.
